Pesannya sederhana, jika sedikit bertentangan.

Russian Ministry of Defense: Problem with New Military Devices, We Lead in the World

russian defense

MOSCOW - Russian troops have revealed the existence of a large program of weapons, so far has transformed their country into a world leader in the new military equipment sector.

Currently about half of the heavy equipment used by soldiers, such as tanks and artillery, is Russia's best production.

Over the past five years, the army has received more than 25 thousand new hardware, such as tanks and armored combat vehicles, as well as more than 4,000 modern artillery and missile launchers.

Reporting from the Russia Today page, Friday (08/03/2018), Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, Army General Dmitry Bulgakov said this to reporters last Wednesday.

According to an independent expert institution, in 2017 Russia was ranked second in the world in terms of military hardware like that.

Bulgakov also mentioned that around 50 percent of the military hardware currently available is really a 'new item'.

Russia is now undergoing a massive disarmament process, deactivating old Soviet-era weapons and replacing them with modern types of armor and weapons.

In November, the army reported that Russia had become the country with the most tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and dual launch rocket systems (MLRS).

Global Firepower's military analytic company also ranked second, because the Russian army became the best among the world's 136 military.

While the first position is occupied by the United States military (US).

This ranking was decided after considering more than 50 factors, including the number of weapons available and their combined firepower.

Previously, a Credit Suisse report in 2015 said Russia was second only to the US, related to indicators of military strength.

China-India Agrees to Strengthen Military Relations

China-India Agrees to Strengthen Military Relations

New Delhi - India and China have agreed to expand their military relations and increase interaction to ensure peace on their shared borders.

Relations between the Asian giant were tense last year for 73 days of military fighting in remote areas, the highlands on the disputed Himalayan border.

However, his neighbors over the past few months have sought to improve relations and visit Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe and told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi this week that their country's friendship was finally restored.

"On Thursday, Wei held extensive discussions with his Indian counterpart, Nirmala Sitharaman," said the Indian government.

"The meeting decided to expand engagement between the armed forces of the two countries relating to training, joint training and other professional interactions," the government said in a statement issued Thursday night. 08/24/2018).

The Indian government also reported that ministers also discussed their borders and agreed to implement confidence-building measures to ensure peacekeeping, including the initial operationalization of the hotline between their armed forces.

India and China fought in 1962 and their unresolved disputes over a 3,500 km (2,200 mile) border stretch have covered the relationship ever since.

But two major Asian countries shared the same position on a number of issues including concerns about US tariffs and Chinese President Xi Jinping and Modi agreed in April to improve relations.

Russia will hold the biggest military exercises since Soviet times

russian army

MOSCOW - Russia is preparing to hold the biggest military exercises in decades. Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said the exercises, in which China and Mongolia would participate, would be an unprecedented scale.

"A series of exercises, which will be named the joint exercise 'Vostok-2018', will take place in Siberia and the Russian Far East and will be an unprecedented scale when it comes to geographical coverage and the number of troops and troops taking part in it," said Shoigu as quoted from Russia Today, Tuesday (08/21/2018).

Shoigu said that training would outweigh the biggest training in Soviet history, held in 1981 in the Belarusian region, Ukraine, three Baltic republics and several countries from the Warsaw Pact.

The total number of troops expected to take part in the training has not been revealed. But China has confirmed that it will send more than 3,000 troops to join Russian troops during training.

"More than 900 military hardware and 30 fighter planes and helicopters will also be deployed to Russia as part of the training," the Chinese Defense Ministry said.

Future training seems to be preparing to go beyond the Zapad-2017 training scale, which Russia staged last year, provoking a reaction from the West. The exercise - which involved about 12,700 troops, 70 military aircraft, 10 ships and about 680 land vehicles - sparked accusations that the number of participating soldiers did not match official numbers. Even further mentioning the exercise was carried out for invasion of neighboring countries.

Zapad war training, despite its defensive nature, is widely used by NATO officials and the media to ignite narratives of "Russian aggression" and to further justify NATO's buildup in Eastern Europe.

In response to the exercise, Poland hosted an exercise called "national" Dragon 17, which involved contingents from the US, Britain, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia and Ukraine. In particular, the number of troops involved in Dragon 17 far exceeds the 2017 Zapad training, with around 17,000 soldiers and 3,500 hardware parts involved.

NATO also continues to intensify its military exercises at the Russian door. In June, more than 18,000 troops from 19 countries took part in the two-week Saber Strike exercise held in Poland and the Baltic States. On Monday, Latvia launched the largest military exercise ever staged since gaining independence. The exercise also involved troops from more than a dozen other NATO countries.

Military experts: Iran's newest fighter jet is actually an obsolete F-5

Kowsar iran

Iran has introduced its newest domestically made fighter jet, the Kowsar, on Tuesday. However, military experts say, the fighter plane claimed by Tehran was actually Northrop F-5F made in the United States in the early 1970s.

In its launch, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sat in the cockpit of the Kowsar fighter jet on August 21, 2018. After claiming domestic products in Iran, military experts question the truth of the claim.

Tehran's media in its report said the Kowsar was a fourth-generation fighter jet that had been designed and produced by Iranian military experts.

International military and aviation experts doubt that the Kowsar is an Iranian original technology. They believe, the Kowsar is an obsolete US-made F-5F jet. Moreover, I bought an F-5 from America in 1974, five years before the Islamic Revolution in Iran broke.

Joseph Dempsey, a researcher who is also military and defense analysis at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), illustrates the comparison of the Kowsar with the F-5 he shared on Twitter.

"Kowsar, an indigenous Iranian fighter jet, prototype 3-7400 (2018). Northrop F-5F Tiger II, prototype 00889 (1974)," Dempsey wrote
via the @JosephHDempsey account in illustrating the comparison image, quoted Thursday (08/23/2018).

Speaking to CNBC by telephone on Wednesday, Dempsey's colleague for military aerospace at IISS, Douglas Barrie, agreed that the plane inaugurated by Iran appeared to be an F-5 with two seats.

Barrie said the idea that the plane was a native creation must be responded to with "a massive pinch of salt". It's just that, he suspects there is an element of truth to make some new features in the fighter.

"Iranians may have the industrial capacity to at least make assemblies for these aircraft. They clearly have been able to make pieces for these things," he said.

According to Barrie, Iranian engineers may also have improved the aircraft's electronic control system, but that would be difficult to prove given that the original specifications came from a long time ago like the 1960s era.

John Sneller, head of flight at Jane IHS Markit defense consultant, also identified the plane as an F-5F with two seats. Speaking to CNBC by telephone on Wednesday, Sneller said that the plane shown in the picture released by Iran had clear design elements from US-made aircraft.

"The signs on the side, especially the rather unusual air intake that tilted back a bit, belong to the F-5F," he said.

Sneller believes Iran is trying to show that it still has the ability of a fighter jet and it also shows international observers that the aircraft's internal system has been updated.

He said with pressure coming from the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia, leaders in Tehran would also be interested in showing their own people that Iran had several ways to protect itself.

"They develop their own original abilities, but it's far from designing, certifying, and making their own aircraft, and that doesn't seem to be the case in this particular set of images that have come out," said Sneller.

According to Jane IHS Markit estimates, Iran currently has 31 single-seat F-5E jets and 17 F5-F aircraft in double seats in its military services.

According to figures provided by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the Iranian military has a 2017 budget of USD14.1 billion, or 2.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

So far, Tehran has not responded to various criticisms about the authenticity of the Kowsar fighter jet claimed to be sophisticated. Earlier, Israel mocked Iran for allegedly plagiarizing the obsolete US F-5 fighter jets into the latest locally-made combat.

Counter US invasion, Iran strengthens military

Iran strengthens military

Iran says it will strengthen its military and show off its new fighter planes amid relations that continue to heat up with the United States and regional rivals.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday that military power was a factor that could prevent Washington from attacking Tehran.

The United States under the leadership of President Donald Trump has become an isolated country from the international world, he said.

"We must be prepared to fight with foreign powers who want to colonize our territories and natural resources," Rouhani said in a speech broadcast live on television ahead of National Defense Industry Day which fell on Wednesday.

"Why does the United States not attack us? The answer, because of our own strength, they know the consequences," Rouhani said.

Last week, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated that the United States preferred to avoid armed confrontation with Tehran because of the great power of the Iranian military.

Khamenei has rejected the offer of direct negotiations with Trump for a new nuclear deal.

Relations between Washington and Tehran deteriorated in May when Trump decided to unilaterally withdraw from an international nuclear agreement aimed at limiting Iran's nuclear development program.

Trump said the agreement signed in 2015 was a flawed agreement because it did not include Iran's missile program or their involvement in the conflict in Syria and Yemen.

Shortly after withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear agreement, the United States again imposed economic sanctions on Iran.

Rouhani likened sanctions to Iran with the ongoing trade war between Washington and China, Turkey and a number of European countries.

"It's not only us who lost confidence with America. Today, even Europe and China have no longer trusted them, also with close allies like Canada," Rouhani said.

Rouhani also attended the launch of a new fighter aircraft called the Kowsar, which was called "100 percent locally made" and was able to fire various weapons.

However, a number of military experts call the new jet an imitation of F-5 fighters first made in the United States in the 1960s.

"The Kowsar airframe is exactly the same as the F-5. Although this is made domestically, the shape is completely foreign," said Justin Bronk, a researcher in aerospace technology at the Royal United Services Institute's military science department.

"Kawsar is a small and light aircraft with a small engine and low fuel capacity that limits the range," he said.

Iran's air power has so far been limited by dozens of Russian warplanes and those made in the United States which were purchased before the 1979 Revolution broke out.

Military training was canceled, US troops remain alert in Korea

US troops

SEOUL - Although diplomatic relations on the Korean Peninsula are melting which includes the cancellation of joint military exercises scheduled for this month, US (US) troops in Korea remain alert to military threats from North Korea (North Korea). That was what the US Forces Commander in Korea, General Vincent Brooks, said.

"I did not accept orders to be unprepared," Brooks said in a briefing.

"Nothing tells me to retreat from the readiness or serious professional work that we do as here in the Republic of Korea," he continued as quoted by AFP on Wednesday (08/22/2018).

This month's aborted exercise, called Ulchi Freedom Guardian, has been held every year and is one of the largest military exercises in the world. Last year, the Ulchi Freedom Guardian was held for 11 days and included 17,500 US and 50,000 South Korean (South Korean) soldiers. The exercises routinely infuriate Pyongyang, which sees it as an exercise for large-scale invasion of North Korea.

At a historic meeting last June with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore, President Donald Trump surprised observers by announcing he would cancel the war training, calling it provocative, a term often used by Pyongyang.

"Cancellation of training has forced US and South Korean forces to find other ways to maintain readiness," Brooks said.

"If we don't practice in the same way, then we will practice in a different way - but we will remain ready," he explained.

"Maybe we have been told now to return our sword to the sheath, but we have not been told to forget how to use it," he said.

There are currently around 28,500 US troops stationed in South Korea. The US military presence since the Korean War, which ended in a ceasefire was not a peace agreement, leaving the technical side still at war.

This year has seen a dramatic increase in relations on the Korean peninsula, from North Korea's participation in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in February to an inter-Korean meeting between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Kim in April.

Kim Jong-un's meeting with Trump in Singapore resulted in an agreement calling for a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula and a promise from North Korea to cooperate towards denuclearization.

The prospect of peace has raised questions about the future of American troops in South Korea, where Trump himself said he was better off getting rid of American troops.

"I want to repatriate our army," Trump said in Singapore.

"I want to bring our soldiers back home ... but that is not part of the equation now. At some point, I hope it will happen, but not now," he explained.

South Korea, whose military consists of 620 thousand troops, is on its own to ease tensions on the peninsula. On Tuesday, the South's defense ministry announced that it would begin to move several guard posts along the North Korean border on a trial basis.

A report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) nuclear watchdog released Monday said the agency found no indication that Pyongyang had stopped its nuclear activities.

"The continuation and further development of the DPRK's nuclear program and related statements by the DPRK are a cause of serious concern," the report said, using the official name for North Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Brooks said: "North Korea does not have an adequate level of confidence or confidence at this time so it can take steps (towards denuclearization) and remain safe."

He then called for continuing international pressure on Pyongyang, saying that serious action was needed to denuclearize.

"There is still a need for continued pressure so there is no reason or even the ability for North Korea to withdraw," he said.

"They have taken important steps towards peace but these steps must be followed by more serious steps in denuclearization and building trust," he said.
